Bobcat Bulletin v.10

November 1, 2024

We had a wonderful week at Moretown Elementary School!  Halloween was a big success and we'd like to thank all that donated candy, visited the school Thursday evening and shared your children's smiles with us.  An extra special thank you to those that volunteered to hand out special Halloween treats under our roof and to the Moretown General Store for the free creemees!

This week our biking unit concluded in PE class.  If you still have a bike at school we welcome you to pick it up anytime since they are no longer needed.  Pretty soon the snow will fly!

I want to remind all of our families that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, November 4th and Tuesday, November 5th.

Brian Mohr from Ember Photography will be traveling to Moretown on Wednesday, November 6th for picture retakes.  If your student was absent they will need to get their picture taken on the 6th.  Additionally, if you would like your student to retake their picture please let their teacher know ASAP.

The sixth grade class is continuing to fundraise money for their 6th grade trip this spring.  They are selling poinsetta plants through Claussen's Greenhouse. We invite you to look at this flyer and order a plant or two.

This coming Monday we start our parent teacher conferences.  Moretown is hosting student-led conferences, where our students share their work with their families supported by their teachers.  It's nice to hear directly from students and see the pride they take in their work.

We hope that our students and their families have an enjoyable LONG weekend.  We look forward to welcoming our students back on Wednesday, November 6th.

From Mr. Stevenson- Name a Plow!

Each year, Vermont schools are invited to participate in the Agency of Transportation’s Name a Plow program. This year, in addition to naming a plow truck, schools could enter the contest to name the AOT’s new plow truck with a 21-foot “wing” used to clear Interstate 89.

The Name a Plow program began in 2021. That year, Moretown students submitted the name “Snowbuster.” You likely saw it on the plow that clears the major roads in Moretown.

Moretown School is participating in the program again this year. Our older students came up with possible names, students and staff voted and the name that received the most votes was Scoop Dogg! We soon learned that this name had been submitted by another school, so we submitted our 2nd place name, Jack the Snowcat, which is inspired by our school mascot, Jack the Bobcat. The 3rd place name, Ice Hawk, will be submitted into the contest to name the winged plow.

Our named snow plow will be visiting our school on Thursday, November 7th. We also invited a few of our Moretown plow drivers to join us during our morning meeting that day to answer student questions. Thank you Moretown road crew for all you do to keep our roads safe!
