Bobcat Bulletin v.14, 24-25

November 26, 2024

This week was exceptionally short, with today's incliment weather day providing us all with an extra long holiday weekend.

Even with a short week, there was a lot to celebrate at school yesterday.  Our third and fourth grade classrooms transformed to a Winn Dixie party and singalong with Moretown parent/musician extraodinaire, Matt Holland.  Our preschool classrooms came together to host a Harvest Celebration in the forest and Ms. C's class had a celebration of food.

We hope that you'll all consider joining us on December 7th from 9-3 for the annual Moretown Artisans Fair.  Our school gym comes to life with displays from a number of local artisans with items for sale as people prepare for the holidays and beyond.  This is a PTO fundraiser with a silent auction and Mrs. Willard will be on site with the culminating weekend of the Book Fair!

Speaking of the Book Fair, Mrs. Willard has a note below with Book Fair specifics.

I want to wish you all a peaceful and joy-filled Thanksgiving.  We look forward to welcoming students back on Monday, December 2nd.

Ms. Kate

From Mrs. Willard:

The Scholastic Book Fair will be December 2 - 7.  Hopefully, you received the flyer home last week.  Here is the website for details and how to set up an e-Wallett. Moretown Scholastic Book Fair. And I wanted to remind you that again this year I will be buying each student a book from the fair to take home.  Happy Reading

Mrs. Willard

PTO Update

We hope that you - everyone in our Moretown School community - have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. We're very thankful for the teachers, staff, parents, grandparents, families, and community members that contribute so much to our kids' school experience. We appreciate you!

A few upcoming things:

  • WINTER SPORTS FUNDRAISER - Giving Tuesday (the Tuesday after Thanksgiving) is an annual celebration of charitable giving, and many nonprofits use Giving Tuesday to raise extra funds for their organizations' missions. This year, the Moretown School PTO is focusing its Giving Tuesday efforts on raising funds for the winter sports program. Each year, the Moretown PTO dedicates a significant portion of its annual budget to funding the winter sports program, covering everything from buses to the mountain and time with Sugarbush instructors to after-ski snacks. We're also committed to making the school's winter sports program accessible and affordable for all students, so some funds are reserved for program participation scholarships and equipment rental scholarships. The generosity of our community allows us to accomplish this year after year. Click here to support our Giving Tuesday winter sports fundraiser. Thank you!
  • SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7 - Moretown Artisans' Sale, PTO Raffle,  Scholastic Book Fair & "Moretown Stroll": SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7th is *the* day to be in Moretown village! There will be so much to do!
    • At Moretown School: The annual Moretown Artisans' Sale will be taking place at Moretown School from 9am-3pm and will feature the work of nearly 25 local artisans (shop local this holiday season!). The PTO will also be at MES on the 7th hosting the PTO raffle and giving tree fundraisers. We're excited to offer some big-ticket raffle prizes this year, and the proceeds will benefit the winter sports program. Mrs. Willard will be hosting the scholastic book fair in the library, and the proceeds from book sales will directly support the purchase of new kids' books.
    • Around the village. Take the "Moretown Stroll" on the 7th and visit some other village hot spots. At Town Hall, enjoy crafts for all ages, and the Friends of the Moretown Library Cookie Walk, pick up a cup of hot chocolate at the fire station, and stop by the Moretown Historical Society to learn more about our great town.
    • Stay tuned for more details about what is sure to be an amazing day!
  • Parent & Family Engagement Survey - We're always seeking new ideas and new volunteers. Help us know what's important to you and how you might want to be involved. Click here to complete our parent and family engagement survey.

A 1793 Christmas with Major General & Mrs. Wait

November 30, 4:00pm

Our most historical home in the Mad River Valley is decorated for Christmas inside and out. Carolers on the porch and eggnog and a warm fireplace to greet you on the inside. There you will find the General and his lovely wife to beguile you with stories of what Christmas was like.

This event is meant to be a fun and educational event for all ages, with a heavy emphasis on younger people. Major General and Mrs. Wait will be present to give historical orations about early life in Waitsfield and greet all of their guests. There will be photo opportunities. Mrs. Wait and her helpers will have cookies and hot chocolate for the children. Further, the little ones can color ornaments that they can hang on the Wait's Christmas tree, bring or write letters to Santa Claus that will be answered by him. (must have returned address) Local singers will be present to sing Christmas carols. If inspired, please join singing along with them.

Parking is available at the Town Office's parking lot and at the Waitsfield Elementary School.

This event is free. Donations to the Waitsfield Historical Society gladly accepted.
