December 13, 2024
It's hard to believe that there is only one week left of school before the holiday break! Please make note that on Friday, December 20th students will be released at 11:30am. Changes to the default plan will need to be made in Pick up Patrol no later than 9:15 that morning. A link to Pick up Patrol can be found on the homepage of our website.
Last weekend our 5/6 Lego Robotics Team and their advisors, Jason Stevenson and Mish Boreanaz, competed in a regional tournament at Montpelier High School and took home second place! Congratulations to team members Reece Ruggles, Anders Yunghans, Logan Liptak, Ezra Kessler, Will Coon, Mason Henchen and Aiden Lavanway. This team will now move forward to the state competition on January 18th.
This morning we celebrated Moretown's support staff with an appreciation breakfast. Support staff include paraprofessionals, custodians, food service workers, student support and admin assistant. These are the people that make our school run and are vital to our school community. Please help us in celebrating and thanking the following:
Amy Butler
Jan Gillen
Brenda Hartshorn
Emily Taylor
Liz Harris
Stephanie Jenkerson
Patty Kirpan
Lisa Martin
Lin Nunn
Michelle Sismondo
Kylie Williams
Greg Wagner
Our lost and found is bursting with misplaced items! Please encourage your student to check prior to Friday. Any items left in the lost and found will be donated over the holiday break.
I hope you all enjoy the weekend. I look forward to welcoming students back on Monday.

Health Class Updates
This month in health class, we focused on developmentally appropriate relationship and sexuality education, including personal safety. Each grade level had a lesson on sexual abuse prevention in line with Act 1, a Vermont law. In the blog linked below, I share more specifically what that looks like at each grade level. K-4 have wrapped up these lessons and will be starting a nutrition unit next week, while 5-6 will wrap up this unit next week and begin their nutrition unit after break. The last health class of the school year will be the week of January 15th, when my health teaching duties move to Waitsfield- PE class will still be twice a week with me at MES.
Read more about these lessons in two new blog posts at https://zainopeandhealth.blogspot.com/
From Nurse Phil
Hello Moretown families,
I want to remind everybody that it is the cold and flu season and that we are all making sure we are taking all the precautions we can to keep ourselves, our families and everyone around us safe and healthy. I am including Everyday Prevention Steps from the Vermont department of health, as well as the Centers for Disease Control. Prevention is key to helping keep the spread of diseases. The general message from myself and the health department is that if you’re sick, stay home. If you have any questions about anything at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
Thank you
We all have a role to play in preventing the spread of germs by practicing these everyday prevention measures:
1. Wash your hands often with soap and warm water. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol to kill germs.
2. Cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or tissue.
3. Avoid contact with others if you or they are sick.
4. Consider wearing a mask
