Bobcat Bulletin v. 17

December 15, 2023

Thank you to everyone who attended the Artisan's Sale last weekend and supported our Book Fair and the PTO.  A special thank you to PTO President Louisa Wilson, MES librarian Nancy Willard as well as Lindsay Stapes and Krista Mitchell for their work in putting this event together and making it such an incredible success!

It's hard to believe that there is only one week left of school before the holiday break.  Please mark your calendars and make note that we will be starting our dismissal procedures at 11:55 am on Friday, December 22nd.  It will be important to know your student's dismissal plan on that day and communicate any changes through Pick up Patrol.  We thank you for your efforts in ensuring that we know where students should be heading at this earlier dismissal time.

I'd also like to say thank you to everyone who usually picks students up at the end of the day.  We have recently made some change to our pick up procedures to improve efficiency and student safety.  I am happy to say that we are receiving a lot of positive feedback!  Change can be hard, and I am thrilled with how everyone has embraced these necessary adjustments.

Our next virtual PTO meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 20th at 7pm.  A link can be found below as well as linked to our website.

We wish all of our students and families a wonderful weekend and look forward to seeing everyone next week.

Ms. Kate

From School Board Chair Kristen Rodgers:

To the Moretown Community,

It has been an honor and privilege for the last 5 years to be your Moretown Representative on the School Board. It is bittersweet to let you know I won’t be running for re-election in March.

Working with our Superintendent, Dr Mike, over the last two years has been an absolute breath of fresh air and an amazing opportunity. For the first time in a long time I feel our district is in good hands and it is time for me to pass the torch. Thank you Moretown for trusting my ability to make the best decisions for our school, town, and kids.

Each town in our district deserves its full representation at the board table. I am sharing this news early on with hopes that it sparks interest within a member or two of our town who might be willing to run for the Moretown seat in March.  If you have been thinking of running for the school board, now is the time to bring your strong sense of community and goodwill for our district to a seat on the School Board. Please feel free to reach out to me ([email protected]) or my fellow Moretown representative, Ben Clark ([email protected]), with any questions.

If interested in running, please reach out to the Moretown Town Clerk, Cherilyn Brown ([email protected]) for information on election procedures. The deadline for a petition with signatures is January 29th to be on the Moretown Town Meeting Day ballot.

Sincerely,

Kristen Rodgers

It’s time for the MRV Great Amazing Bear Story Contest!

With near record bear counts this year it’s no wonder there are so many bear sightings in the Mad River Valley. The VT Fish & Wildlife Department estimates 7,000-8,500 bears statewide, a 5 year high with an estimated 2,000 more animals than just a few years ago. As bears seek and compete for new territories to call their own, we find more bears popping up all over our community. It’s the perfect opportunity to embrace living in bear country by sharing collective stories, wildlife appreciations, and tips & tricks for our peaceful coexistence!

The MRV Bear Initiative wants to hear your best bear stories from 2023 . Share with others and become eligible to win some cool prizes!

Details:
Craft your story and submit it to the MRV Bear Initiative before Wednesday January 31st, 2024. Your story only needs to be long enough to capture our attention. Submit any or multiple formats of recorded media – an essay, pictures, drawings, a link to a video, a poem, a diorama, etc. Choose the format that best fits your story. Selected stories will be shared with the community as educational and inspirational opportunities for all of us to enjoy.
