Bobcat Bulletin v. 19

January 5, 2024

Welcome to 2024!  We are so happy to have our students back on campus and ready to take on a fresh new year of learning.  As excited we are to look ahead, it's important to take a moment to thank our staff for their efforts to make the end of 2023 positive, supportive and fun for our kids.  While no one ever wishes to endure a flood, our staff have proven that they will do whatever it takes to make sure that our kids are taken care of.

Thank you to the many individuals, community groups and organizations who have showered our staff with kindness these past few weeks.  We are feeling the love!

We are eager to get to the mountain this coming week for the start of our Winter Ski Program.  We will head to Sugarbush for our first ski and ride day on Tuesday, January 9th.  Students will eat lunch at school prior to loading the buses and will be given a school-provided snack to consume at Sugarbush.  There is a really important note below regarding Pick up Patrol and the earlier cut off time needed for all students.  Please take extra time in reading that section and reach out if there are any additional questions.

Our fifth and sixth grade students engaged in an (Almost) All Day of Reading day today.  They wore comfortable clothes, brought in pillows and blanket and lounged with a good book.  Their teachers arranged for snacks and beverages throughout the day and even invited me to attend!  Students seemed happy to find a cozy corner and jump into reading.

Ms. Thompson's first and second grade class rescheduled their 'December Theme Week' for this week and enjoyed a game day, pajamas and even a movie with treats.  They also enjoyed using their imaginations and wrote stories about getting stuck in a snow globe!  Miss Jenny's preschool students created "Winter Wishes" to share with the school.

Be sure to continue reading for imporant information regarding skiing, notes from Nurse Phil and Ms. Zaino.

I look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday.

An important note from Brenda and Kate

Dear Families,

Pick Up Patrol will need to be updated every Tuesday by 9:15 am, since this is a skiing day.  This deadline is for all students, even though only students in grades 1 through 6 go downhill skiing.

If your child will be staying on the mountain instead of riding the bus back to school, PLEASE make note of this in P.U.P. (again by 9:15 am) by choosing “Stay At Sugarbush/Tuesday Skiing” in the first drop down field.  Second field must include the name of the adult who will be meeting your child at the mountain at 1:30.  All students will need to check out with Kate Liptak by 1:30 otherwise they will need to ride the bus back to school.

Thank you for your cooperation so we can be sure all students get safely to their intended destinations on ski days.

Kate Liptak, Principal

From Nurse Phil's Office

I want to remind everybody that it is the cold and flu season and that we are all making sure we are taking all the precautions we can to keep ourselves, our families and everyone around us safe and healthy. I am including Everyday Prevention Steps from the Vermont department of health, as well as the Centers for Disease Control. Prevention is key to helping keep the spread of diseases. The general message from myself and the health department is that if you’re sick, stay home. If you have any questions about anything at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Thank you,

Phil Stolz

Everyday Prevention Steps

We all have a role to play in preventing the spread of germs by practicing these everyday prevention measures:

1. Wash your hands often with soap and warm water. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol to kill germs.

2. Cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or tissue.

3. Avoid contact with others if you or they are sick.

4. Consider wearing a mask

802 Smiles

Due to our previous snow days and flooding catastrophes, we had to postpone our 802 smiles program. If you signed your child up for the program, we will be conducting the assessments with the dental hygienist on January 17 and 18th. If you would like your child to participate, and you still have not signed up, I can get them added to the schedule as well.

PE Notes

Please check out the PE and Health blog at https://zainopeandhealth.blogspot.com/ to read the December wrap-up. I'm also seeking donations of gently used sneakers in big kid size 2, 3, 4, and adult men's size 11. Thanks for checking your closets for any that you don't need!
