Bobcat Bulletin v.2

September 6, 2024

We are finishing up a great short week here at Moretown Elementary School.  Students are settling into classroom routines, making new friends and starting their learning journey.  This morning I observed one of the first Heggerty lessons (early literacy) in kindergarten and the energy and excitement in the room was palpable.

We hope that you will all consider joining us tomorrow for Morefest!  Every year this is one of my favorite events; watching our community come together and celebrate all things Moretown.  The fireworks are incredible, the food and craft vendors are top notch, face painting, mac and cheese for the library, all things apple competition and there is even some delicious pulled pork sandwiches to support our fifth and sixth graders.  Maybe I'll see you there!

Thank you to everyone for your attention to our dismissal protocols.  This is a busy time of the day as we get over 150 students to their correct destination.  In order for us to continue to keep kids safe and connected to their afternoon plans, please remember to park if you plan on exiting your vehicle.  Anyone that plans to pick up a student underneath the roof (and not from your vehicle) will need to park and walk over.  We also encourage families that need to fasten car seats to park and walk over or pull all the way up.  Please, if you are picking up a student from under the roof, check them out with an adult.

Next week is our first five day week and it looks like we are in store for beautiful weather.  We want to remind families to take an extra minute to sunscreen and bug spray your student prior to coming to school and send in a water bottle.

I wish you all a joy-filled weekend and hope to see many of you at Morefest.  I look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday.

Music with Mr. Hill

MES music is off to a great start! Kindergarten through 2nd grade students are being “tuneful, beat-ful, and artful” as we implement John Feirabend’s First Steps in Music and Conversational Solfege curricula, combined with my own Orff influenced approach. This particular combination of influences will ensure a systematic approach to introducing a range of material that will prepare students for being able to understand and work with music concepts in an informed and creative way. Experience first, then analyze. Our 3rd through 6th grade students are similarly engaged in material that is leading them toward music literacy, creativity, and, ultimately, composition. All of our students are getting a healthy portion of creative movement activities that serve them in a variety of ways on their journey to becoming musical people!

Welcome back to Health and PE!

Thanks for helping your student remember sneakers and a water bottle on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for health and PE class. You can read more about our schedule and what we are learning at the blog: https://zainopeandhealth.blogspot.com/
