Bobcat Bulletin v.21

January 19, 2024

We had a short, and productive week at school after a nice long weekend.  This week many teachers talked about the important work done by Martin Luther King Jr. and kids had great questions.  Ms. C's class has read books all week and one of her second graders mentioned segregation at lunch and exclaimed "why would people do that!?"  I appreciate how our young learners are able to look at things with open eyes and it brings me great hope for the future.

Our Winter Sports Program was a giant success on January 9th and we look forward to our next trip to Sugarbush on Tuesday, January 23rd.  We hope that you will all help us by labeling all of your student's equipment (helmet, skis/snowboard, poles, boots, etc.) and making sure that your student wear tall socks that go up to the knee.  Please also give extra attention to make sure that your student has their ski pass unless you have indicated that you don't have one.  This allows for students to get right to skiing instead of waiting in lines to get their day pass.  Thank you for your attention to these details.

About a month ago we revamped our dismissal plan to increase student safety and efficiency.  It is working really well to have students utilize the sidewalk to the left of our building and we are going to request that morning drop offs also utilize the sidewalk.  We'd also like to remind family that our carline dismissal is at 2:20pm.  Please try to be here on time so students and staff don't have to spend more time waiting in the cold.

As always, thank you for trusting us with your children.  We look forward to welcoming them back on Monday for a full week (hopefully) of learning!

Ms. Kate

From Miss Jenny:

The Pines and Maples preschool classes are showing lots of interest in literacy!  Our fabulous MES Interventionist, Liz Ather, accepted our invitation to join us for a literacy activity once a week and today was the first day of "Literacy with Liz!"

From Nurse Phil:

Hello Moretown families. This week we were joined by 802 smiles, formerly known as the tooth tutor. He was fully set up in the office as a little mobile dentist office. It was so cool to have him here and for him to assist the number of children that we had go through the program. This program is available for anybody within the school district and will be happening again next year. I encourage everybody to sign their children up for this wonderful service, it does help with preventative hygiene work and he can also make referrals to local dentist for help. Glad he was here this week and hopefully we can fill up all the spots next year for him. Thank you so much for the ones that participated.

Soccer Registration

In the spring, the Mad River Valley Soccer Association provides a competitive soccer experience for players from the Mad River Valley and Waterbury areas. The Spring Travel program participates in the Vermont Soccer League.  The first game is held on the first weekend in May, and the last game is typically in mid-June.  Teams practice at Mad River Park, with typically two practices per week.

Registration for spring travel soccer is now open through February 10th, 2024. There is no guarantee of a spot after registration closes.

Mad River Valley Soccer Association participates in the Vermont Soccer League through the Vermont Soccer Association (VSA). VSA is a US Youth Soccer organization. All USYS rules are followed: each player must provide proof of age (birth certificate or passport) and a picture.

Teams are based on BIRTH YEAR, not school grade. For example, a 4th grader born in 2013 would play U12, while a 4th grader born in 2014 would play U10.

o    U10: 2014-2015

o    U12: 2012-2013

o    U14: 2010-2011

o    U16: 2008-2009

Coaches will create rosters if we have multiple teams in an age group.

We encourage multisport athletes to play spring soccer. We ask that all players make at least one practice per week and most games. While we try to hold practices on alternate days, we are limited by field space and field availability.

Scholarships are available.

Please reach out to [email protected] for more information.
