Happy Friday, Moretown Families! It’s certainly been an eventful week here at MES. We were so happy to get back to Sugarbush on Tuesday to ski in excellent snow and weather conditions.
This week is National School Counselor Week and we'd like to give a special shout out to MES School Counselor Jason Stevenson. Mr. Steve works hard with kids to develop skills to handle life's curveballs both in small groups and in wellness classes. Mr. Steve is an active member of our school community in many ways by serving as a co-leader for the Lego Robotics Club, a member of the Moretown Advisory Team, a member of the district-wide SEL task force and so much more. Beyond what he contributes to students and our school as a whole, Mr. Steve is exceptional at putting smiles on faces and listening when it matters most. Thanks for all you do, Mr. Steve!
Next week is Random Acts of Kindness Week. RAK attempts to inspire people in schools, workplaces, and communities to come together and make kindness the norm through simple, meaningful actions. Random Acts of Kindness Week and Day serve as powerful reminders that kindness is not just an action but a way of life.
Thanks to Nancy Willard we will be hosting local author, Dan Abdo on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Dan is the author of the graphic novels, The Barb Series. He will read his favorite picture book with all the students during our all-school meeting on Wednesday morning and then he will be meeting with the 3/4 and 5/6 classes to discuss the process of creating a graphic novel. Students are welcome to bring a copy of his books for him to sign and we are working on getting some for purchase that day. Many thanks to the Moretown PTO for sponsoring Dan's trip to Moretown.
A huge thank you to all of you for your understanding and flexibility on Wednesday when the school lost water pressure and we needed to dismiss students early. We know this was a hardship for so many of you. Good news is that the problem was discovered, and we have water pressure back. We are continue to be under a boil water order until testing is completed.
Wishing you each a lovely Vermont winter weekend! We look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday.

2025 Girls On The Run Team is looking for coaches!!
Make a positive impact and empower young Vermont girls by volunteering as a Girls on the Run coach at Moretown Elementary this spring! With caring coaches who mentor and motivate, all girls can reach new heights. This season's curriculum inspires all participants to say “I can!” to every obstacle that comes their way. Team members build confidence to overcome difficult situations, inspire others to keep going when it’s hard, and embrace their confidence to make a difference in their community.
Not a runner? Haven’t coached before? No problem! Girls on the Run VT (GOTRVT) provides training, easy to follow lesson plans, supplies and support for a transformational season. Our season begins the week of March 17th, and ends with a celebratory 5K on Saturday May 31st. Our team will meet twice weekly for 90 minute sessions to connect, move, learn and have FUN!
Visit gotrvt.org/coach to learn more or sign up to volunteer. Questions? Contact Christine Tierson at [email protected] or 802-595-3329 or go directly to GOTRVT at [email protected] or 802-871-5664.

Hello neighbors!
We have arranged for a Toddler/Pre-K Gym Time (ages 2-4) starting on 1/10 every other Friday from Jan-March from 5 pm-6:30 pm at the Moretown Elementary School. It'll be a chance for our little ones to run around and play during the cold winter months. The plan is to have mostly free time with the occasional organized game.
The dates will be 1/10, 1/24, 2/7, 2/21, 3/7, and 3/21.
Please follow the signs and enter through the Owl Door. All you will have to do is sign a quick waiver and you'll be good to go. Please reach out with any questions.
Hope to see you there!
