Bobcat Bulletin v.24, 24-25

February 14, 2025

We had a very exciting week here at Moretown School.  We had another successful week skiing and riding at Sugarbush on Tuesday, Author and Illustrator Dan Abdo visited Moretown on Wednesday, a snow day on Thursday and both Valentines Day and the 100th day of school today.  The hallways were humming with excitement, and is evident in the photos from this week.

February is National Random Acts of Kindness month.  While the national scene seems to be in turmoil, it's important to note that our students are happy and treat each other with kindness each day.  Each time we have traveled to Sugarbush the school has received compliments and praise for the manners and overall behavior of Moretown students.  Volunteers, community members and guests continually comment on how nice it is to work with our students and I have never been more proud.  Our Moretown values of 'Joy, Community and Kindness' continue to be evident and ring true in our students.

MES librarian Nancy Willard worked with the PTO to host Dan Abdo, author and illustrator of the Barb series, for a workshop on Wednesday.  Dan worked with our students in grades 3-6 where he shared pieces of his work and taught students to illustrate their own graphic novels.  Students were enthralled with his presentation and came away with work they showed off with pride.

It is critically important that our families educate themselves on the current proposed budget.  We need families to vote on the budget whether on Town Meeting or any day leading up to it.  Please stay educated and understand that if we do not pass a budget on March 4th, further cuts will be necessitated.  Please visit the Harwood website for further information on what is being proposed.  https://huusd.org/budget

Members of the HUUSD School Board, district leadership and I will be hosting a Budget Q&A session at 1:30pm on Thursday, February 20th.  We welcome caregivers to join us in the cafeteria prior to grabbing students at dismissal.  This is an opportunity to gather informally and ask questions so that you can be an informed voter on the 4th.  Please consider attending.

This coming Tuesday, February 18th is not a day that our students will travel to Sugarbush due to the volume of people visiting for President's Day.  Instead, we will be hosting our annual Winter FUN day here at school.  It is looking like Tuesday will be a cooler day, with temperatures in the teens so please make sure that your student comes to school with warm clothing and adequate winter gear.

The Moretown Select Board has reimagined Town Meeting this year to get more families involved in local governance.  The meeting has shifted to 4pm with a pot luck to follow and childcare available.  Please reach out to the select board to secure a spot with childcare and consider being a part of the conversation.

I look forward to a full week of learning next week before heading into the winter vacation.  Please note that school is on winter break from February 24-March 4th.

May you all have a nice weekend.  I look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday.

Ms. Kate

PE Updates!

We got out on the snow this week in PE and are looking forward to more time cross-country skiing after break. Students challenged their balance skiing on nordic skis without poles and tried some drills to build their agility. I've decided to host PE class in the gym on Monday, February 17 due to a forecast that is not conducive to optimal learning. My hope is that we will be able to xc ski in PE on Monday, March 10 and Monday, March 17th. I have updated the dates on the blog to reflect this.

2025 Girls On The Run Team is looking for coaches!!

Make a positive impact and empower young Vermont girls by volunteering as a Girls on the Run coach at Moretown Elementary this spring! With caring coaches who mentor and motivate, all girls can reach new heights. This season's curriculum inspires all participants to say “I can!” to every obstacle that comes their way. Team members build confidence to overcome difficult situations, inspire others to keep going when it’s hard, and embrace their confidence to make a difference in their community.

Not a runner? Haven’t coached before? No problem! Girls on the Run VT (GOTRVT) provides training, easy to follow lesson plans, supplies and support for a transformational season. Our season begins the week of March 17th, and ends with a celebratory 5K on Saturday May 31st. Our team will meet twice weekly for 90 minute sessions to connect, move, learn and have FUN!

Visit gotrvt.org/coach to learn more or sign up to volunteer. Questions? Contact Christine Tierson at [email protected] or 802-595-3329 or go directly to GOTRVT at [email protected] or 802-871-5664.
