Bobcat Bulletin v. 28

March 15, 2024

This week I want to start my notes with sharing my profound appreciation for First Student, Dan Sargeant and our bus drivers.  Weather in Vermont can be fickle at best and this time of year is packed with a lot of curveballs.  This week alone provided our drivers with muddy roads, snow, rain, wind and warm (mud creating) sunshine.  Dan and his crew of drivers took it all in stride and worked hard to limit impact on families while still working to keep kids safe and in school.  Along those same lines, I am happy to report that our routines will return to normal on Monday morning!  Thanks First Student!

When you find yourself in our building again, please consider popping into the cafeteria and taking a look in the Lost and Found.  As a mother of three growing children, I know how expensive quality clothing and gear is and our Lost and Found is overfilling with Bogs boots, Hydroflask waterbottles, Gordini gloves/mittens, Eddie Bauer down coats, L.L. Bean snowpants and so much more.  If you're feeling the penny pinch of needing to continually replace lost items, check here first.  All remaining items in our Lost and Found will be donated at April break.

The school nurses of HUUSD have been closely monitoring changes in guidance pertaining to COVID-19.  Last week the CDC updated their guidance around the isolation period and earlier this week the VT Department of Health updated their guidance.  HUUSD schools will now be following the following guidance pertaining to COVID-19: Updated COVID-19 Guidance from the VT Department of Health

Next week marks the last ski/ride afternoon at Sugarbush.  We are exciting to celebrate our student's progress on the slopes and want to thank the Moretown PTO for making it possible.  The PTO works hard all year raising money to keep this partnership going and letting our kids participate in a big piece of VT culture.  We'd like to thank to PTO as well as three individuals who bring the Winter Sports Program to life; Hannah Flynn, Ashleigh Bergstrom and Natessa Cournoyer.  Additionally, we'd like to thank all of our wonderful parent and community volunteers!

As many of you are already aware, our HUUSD School Board is working hard to prepare a budget to present to tax payers.  I encourage you all to listen in to School Board meetings or to view them at your leisure on youtube.  These meetings provide valuable information about the state of public school funding in Vermont and can provide insight into how the HUUSD will address these new challenges.  Please reach out and ask questions and help educate your neighbors.

I wish you all a weekend filled with things that bring you joy.  We look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday.

Ms. Kate

Our third and fourth graders celebrated Pi Day the right way :-)

PTO Update

The next PTO meeting will be on Wednesday, March 20th at 7:00pm and will be held via GoogleMeet. The meeting link is: meet.google.com/dan-dksg-ovq. All voices are welcomed (and needed!), especially now as we're getting closer to the end of the school year and are looking ahead at our plans for next year.

The PTO's Spring Break Raffle fundraiser is underway, and we're getting excited to start giving away prizes on April 1. As a reminder, we'll be giving away prizes every day between April 1st and 19th, and you can buy tickets all the way up until April 18th. When you purchase $50+, you'll be entered in the grand prize drawing. You can purchase raffle tickets here: https://moretownpto.betterworld.org/giveaways/moretown-school-calendar-raffle

The MES class that sells the most raffle tickets will win a pizza party. Just enter the MES student's full name into the "salesperson" field at checkout. ** As of today, the Goldhammer 3/4 class is in the lead! **

A special presentation by Ms. Zaino

As 3/4students finished their study of the US, teachers were invited to share their experiences and travels.  Ms Zaino presented to Mrs. Riccardi's class about her many trips to Minnesota, most recently for the World Cup of Cross Country skiing.

P.E. Attire for March!

This month in P.E. we are doing our "stunts and tumbling" unit, aka gymnastics with some yo-yo tricks on the side. To set students up for success, please see my attire expectations below. Many students choose to bring in trampoline park socks for class. Our next P.E. class is Monday, March 18th. Thanks for your help!

-Only barefeet or grippy socks (like from the trampoline park or Monkey Do) on mats

-Longhair tied back

-Shirts long enough to be tucked in

-No hats or hoods
