Moretown students welcome spring at the same time as we say farewell to Sugarbush and another great year of skiing and riding. The welcomed change to spring (despite snow in the forecast) also means that we will be restarting our Educating Children Outdoors (ECO) program on Tuesday, April 1st. Now is a great time to check and make sure that your student(s) has waterproof boots and rain gear so that they can comfortably participate in this robust program. With the increase of mud we request that all students- especially our older students- have a second pair of footwear each day (boots AND sneakers) to help us minimize the amount of mud that gets tracked throughout the building.
Next week we start our state required VTCap testing for grades 3-6. Testing will start on Wednesday, April 2nd and will begin at 8am. It is imperative that students arrive to school on time during VTCap testing and we appreciate everyone's help making this happen.
This week we were elated to welcome HUMS Student Leadership Club to MES (and with it some former MES students). These students spent time in our first and second grade classrooms, sharing a story and engaging students in an activity around careers and jobs.
Cast members from the Harwood Spring Musical production of Anything Goes performed selections of the musical to Moretown students this morning. I hope that all of our families consider attending a show next weekend April 3-5 at the Harwood Auditorium.
On Thursday our students in first and second grade visited The Living Tree Alliance to learn about their sugaring operation by visiting their sugarhouse, tapping a tree, tasting sap and more. Additionally, students got to meet their animals, visit their greenhouse and learn about this wonderful community resource. Many thanks to Melanie Grubman for her hospitality and help making this trip happen.
The office always has extra snacks for kids that are hungry throughout the day and we are finding ourselves close to empty. If you would pick up an extra box while you're grocery shopping this weekend and drop it off at the main office, we'd really appreciate it. A hungry kid is not a kid that is readily able to learn. Thank you for the consideration.
Well, I can't even believe that we have snow in the forecast for this weekend. The sun has been feeling so warm and it's nice to see the ground again. I hope that you can find some joy in the snow and sneak in some turns at the mountain or runs on the sled. I look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday morning.
Ms. Kate

Practical tips for feeding your family nutritious meals
This is a fantastic opportunity to learn how to create a positive and balanced approach to food in your home. This aligns with nutrition education taught by Ms. Zaino in the health classroom. To read about Ms. Zaino's approach to nutrition education click here.

Summer FUNd Applications Open for 2025 –
Give Your Child a Summer to Remember
Summer is just around the corner, bringing endless opportunities for kids to explore, learn, and have fun. From outdoor adventures to creative arts and sports, summer camps offer children the chance to build friendships, develop new skills, and make lifelong memories. However, many families simply can’t afford the cost of camp. That’s where the MRV Summer FUNd comes in. Now in its fourth year, this vital program helps ensure that every child in our community has access to enriching summer experiences—regardless of lack of financial resources.
Apply Now – Limited Funding Available
Due to overwhelming demand, applications will now be reviewed in batches at the end of each month rather than on a rolling basis. Submitting early is encouraged but does not guarantee approval. Apply today at www.mrv-ic.org under the Summer FUNd page.
Help Make a Child’s Summer Unforgettable
Do you remember the joy of summer camp? The thrill of exploring the outdoors, making new friends, and discovering new passions? Sadly, last year, limited funding meant we couldn’t support many deserving families. With your help, we can change that. Together, we can give every child the summer they deserve. Every donation—large or small—makes a meaningful difference in the lives of local children.
Ways to Give:
A Community Effort
The MRV Summer FUNd is made possible through a partnership between the Mad River Valley Interfaith Council and the Mad River Valley Community Fund, with generous support from the Mad River Valley Rotary Club and caring individuals like you.
Our camp is located on 93 acres where youth explore the 2-acre garden, swim and tube in the creeks and rivers, explore the wonders of summer in Vermont: harvesting berries, finding chrysalises, painting themselves in the clay deposits in the river, making maps and exploring the adventure playground and treehouse. Led by counselors with more than 2 decades of teaching experience and farm to school leadership, the camp inspires stewardship of the earth, community building and gratitude.
