Bobcat Bulletin v.29

March 22, 2024

Many thanks to all of the families that took advantage of our spring conference windows. Our teachers and students spend a great deal of time preparing for them and students love to show their work to their caregivers.  This is an important part of student development and builds soft skills.

I encourage all families to scroll all the way down this week to read about some important summer camp opportunities available.  I know that camps fill quickly and I don't want any Moretown students missing out.  If you need help accessing camps due to financial limitations, please reach out to me at [email protected] and I will put you in touch with the Mad River FUNd, who has resources to assist families.

This week our students participated in the last Winter Sports Program day of the year.  It was magical to watch students progress over the course of the program; some learning how to clip in on the first week to comfortably managing chairlifts!  Programs like this are important for students and offer non-traditional avenues for learning, promoting healthy living, encourage risk taking and help build our community.  We'd like to thank a few people for the substantial work that they've done to make this a successful program for all of our K-6 students.

Hannah Flynn and Ashleigh Bergstrom made countless trips to and from school with gear, ensuring that each child had access to appropriately fitted and safe equipment to use at the mountain.  This required individual fittings, safety checks at a nearby store, as well as sometimes scouring Central Vermont for snowboards and boots!  Additionally, they worked directly with Sugarbush to secure enough ski/ride instructors to make sure our students had adequate access to learn.  Beyond all of that, they made sure that students had passes each week and snacks to tie them over on the bus.  Thank you!

Natessa Cournoyer had to carefully balance the heavy load of teaching with her extra efforts working with volunteers and making sure that everything was adequately staffed at the mountain.  While Hannah and Ashleigh did most of the prep work, Natessa took over once the program arrived and had to utilize some creative thinking to make sure that all adults and students had what they needed to make each week a success.  Thank you!

Another storm is forecast to hit our region this weekend.  We hope that you all stay safe if you need to travel and allow a little extra time.  I plan to get outside and enjoy some of (what I hope to be) the last flakes of the year.

We look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday morning.

Ms. Kate
