Bobcat Bulletin v.3

We have had a great week of learning and growing here in Moretown!  The highlight of my days continue to be welcoming students at the front door each morning and seeing students smile as they provide fist bumps and see their friends.  While kids may complain of being "tired" a lot, there seems to be a lot of energy and excitement first thing in the morning.

A giant thank you to Terry Hopper, Mish Boreanaz, fifth and sixth grade students as well as parent volunteers for selling pulled pork sandwiches at Morefest this year.  It was a cold and soggy day, but their efforts still raised around $900 for the 6th grade trip to the Hulbert Outdoor Center.

Our Educating Children Outdoors (ECO) program will officially start this coming Tuesday, September 17th.  Our ECO program is a partnership with North Branch Nature Center and is supported by a community donor with further support coming from the private 501(c)3 Friends of ECO at Moretown School.  Each week (with the exception of the winter months where our K-6 students head to Sugarbush), students spend a portion of the day learning about nature, in nature.  This year marks 13 years of ECO at Moretown School!

In order for students to be successful with ECO, each Tuesday (Monday for Maples and Willows' classes) should come prepared for the weather and wear quality footwear.  Your student's teacher will share more specifics about what is needed.  As I have learned from Mrs. Dow, "there's no such thing as bad weather, just clothing." If your family needs help securing any items, please reach out to the school and we will be sure to connect your student to the clothing/gear that will make their time in the woods enjoyable and fulfilling.

Early next week I will be sending information regarding gear rentals for the Winter Sports Program.  This year we will be working with Ian Downing of SlopeStyle- a locally owned and operated family business in Montpelier- for our ski/ride needs.  SlopeStyle is offering discounted rates for Moretown families renting through them.  Be on the lookout for more information early next week.

It looks like there is a beautiful weekend in store for us.  I hope that you all get to soak up some sunshine and recharge for another great week.

I look forward to welcoming students back on Monday.

Ms. Kate

PTO Update

Thanks to everyone who came to Morefest! Even with the rain, we all had a blast. The PTO will soon begin hosting our monthly meetings. If you're interested in joining our meetings, or in volunteering in general, we want to hear from you. Simply email us at [email protected]. You can also follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

The PTO's flower bulb fundraiser is ongoing, and the due date for placing your orders is September 25th. Right now is the perfect time to order flower bulbs for fall planting, and you can support the Moretown PTO at the same time – we'll receive up to 50% of the proceeds. Bulbs ship directly from the vendor, so please share the link with family and friends far and wide. https://tinyurl.com/Fall-Bulbs

Community Offerings

Chess Club

A Moretown youth chess club will be meeting twice a month at the Moretown library after school on Thursdays. Players will occasionally meet up with the Northfield youth chess club for games. We will travel together a few times a year to statewide tournaments.

We are looking for a volunteer chess teacher to commit twice monthly to help teach chess strategy to 3rd- 6th graders. We may be able to provide a stipend. The chess club leader will collaborate with parent volunteers to coordinate the logistics and bring in occasional teachers.

Is this you? We're expecting between 4-6 youth in the club, most of whom have some experience playing chess.

The first scheduled club is Thursday September 19th from 2:45 to 4:15l. Please contact Melanie Grubman for more information about leading or joining the club.
