Bobcat Bulletin v. 31

April 5, 2024

Happy second snow day to all of our students!  This past storm dumped close to 2 feet of heavy wet snow in our region and caused wide-spread power outages, fallen trees and closed roads.  I would like to take a minute to thank Martin Cameron and our Moretown Road Crew for the tireless work they do to keep our roads open during these challenging storms.  On my way in to school this morning I saw Martin and Stefan wielding chainsaws and removing fallen trees off of the road.  Please stay safe out there when you're traveling and offer a friendly "thanks" when you see them working.

There is only one week left to purchase a yearbook.  There will not be any orders accepted after April 12th so don't wait!  Yearbooks are $18 each and can be purchased by sending in cash/check or ordering online through https://shop.memorybook.com/login.  If you have any questions regarding yearbook ordering you can reach out to Brenda Hartshorn at [email protected]

Mr. Hill, Mrs. Adams and our students have started planning and preparing for the annual spring concert.  Moretown's Concert will take place on May 16 at 6pm in the gym.  Mark your calendar now!  More information will be coming as the event draws nearer.  (Please note: if you participate in GMPA's dance recital there is a conflict of dates.  GMPA is willing for students to miss the dress rehearsal at Spruce Peak to participate in the MES Spring Concert.)

The HUUSD School Board met on Wednesday's night and approved a reduced budget to present to voters.  The next round of voting will take place on April 30th and more information will be shared in the coming weeks.  I encourage all MES families to educate yourself by watching past board meetings on the HUUSD School Board youtube channel.  (A simple search for "HUUSD School Board Meeting" will show all the recent meetings.)

Due to the snow days, VTCap testing will need to shift.  This coming week students in grade 5 will participate in the science testing on Tuesday and Wednesday and all students in grades 3-6 will participate in the math testing on Thursday and Friday.

There will not be any school this coming Monday, April 8th in observance of the solar eclipse.  Glasses have been sent home with most MES students but if you are still in need of a pair you can grab them from the school before 3pm on Friday, April 5th or from the Moretown Memorial Library.  If you're unable to secure a pair, email [email protected].

Fifth and sixth grade teacher, Mish Boreanaz, has been busy collecting eclipse resources to share with her students.  This short video produced by the CBC News does a nice job explaining what we will be able to see on April 8th and the rarity of it happening.  She also encourages that folks check out the eclipse page on the Vermont Public website for information specific to Vermont.

We are wishing all of our students and their families a good weekend and a miraculous celestial Monday!

We look forward to welcoming our students back on Tuesday, April 9th.

Ms. Kate

Summer FUNd Applications Open for 2024

Is your child looking for an enriching and engaging summer experience?  The MRV Summer FUNd is here to help ensure that any child who wants this opportunity is given it by providing financial assistance to families who find it challenging to afford these programs given the high cost involved. Summer programs are essential to combat learning loss during the summer break while nurturing the social, emotional, and intellectual growth of participants. By funding an array of activities, the FUNd offers opportunities for exploration, skill-building, and connection with nature.

Apply for a grant now to secure a spot for your child in the camp of their choice, as camps are starting to accept applications and can fill quickly. We want local families who need assistance to know we are here to help.  The application can be accessed at www.mrv-ic.org under the Summer FUNd page or at https://forms.gle/NnzCDAcK1G17mbG18.   If you have any questions, please reach out to Patty Giometti, the Summer FUNd coordinator, at [email protected].

View the Eclipse at Camp Meade!  It's $10 for adults, free for kids, and admission includes eclipse viewing glasses.  Click the link to see the fun lineup of events available to our community.
