Happy Friday! We have had a beautiful week of weather and the trees are really showing us their autumn colors. Please continue to send in waterbottles and encourage layering of clothing to prepare for the fall weather upon us.
As we had done last year, our K-6 students will be hiking at Mad River Glen on October 1st. This is a "pick your adventure" hike with three destinations, all varying in challenge level. Teachers will be talking about the hike with students in class this coming week and working with them to choose the challenge that best fits them.
We are asking for donations to our community gorp- a snack that all students will get to enjoy on the hike. We have divided up the ingredients for each classroom to donate so that we have a balanced assorted. Donations are not required.
We have heard from quite a few families about the morning Bus 11 operating a few minutes ahead of schedule. Dan Sargeant and I have been working on rectifying this and want to remind families that they should be at the designated bus stop 5 minutes early. Right now we are seeing optimal road conditions which can lead to on time, or a few minutes ahead of time, routes. To see the current routes and timing, visit https://huusd.org/bus-routes.
As you drive by our school you may notice a big hole out front. Work continues to restore our building to pre-flood status and our boilers are one of our last steps. This week workers dug the holes, poured the concrete and installed our new propane tanks that will feed our new, energy efficient, boilers. The boilers are set to be up and running within the next few weeks so we will be warm all winter long. Many thanks to ReArch for their continued efforts.
I hope that you all have a fun-filled weekend. We look forward to welcoming our students back next week.

If you'd like to volunteer and have already received a Level 3 cvolunteer clearance from the district, we'd love to have you! To sign up to volunteer, email Kate Liptak at [email protected]. Thanks for considering.
Gorp Donations Requested
To make our school hike even more exciting for our students, we'd like to provide a bag of nut-free gorp to enjoy at their hike destination. We are asking families to donate an ingredient for our gorp and have assigned different classrooms with each ingredient. Radial Paper Relief Sculptures
By the 5/6 Art Classes
The fifth and sixth grade students used their understanding of radial symmetry to create a paper relief sculpture with origami folds. They applied three basic folds to their radial design: the hat fold, the kite fold and the samurai fold. Students layered the folds in unique ways to create beautiful radial relief sculptures.

Chess Club
A Moretown youth chess club will be meeting twice a month at the Moretown library after school on Thursdays. Players will occasionally meet up with the Northfield youth chess club for games. We will travel together a few times a year to statewide tournaments.
We are looking for a volunteer chess teacher to commit twice monthly to help teach chess strategy to 3rd- 6th graders. We may be able to provide a stipend. The chess club leader will collaborate with parent volunteers to coordinate the logistics and bring in occasional teachers.
Is this you? We're expecting between 4-6 youth in the club, most of whom have some experience playing chess.
The first scheduled club is Thursday September 19th from 2:45 to 4:15l. Please contact Melanie Grubman for more information about leading or joining the club.
