Bobcat Bulletin v.5

September 27, 2024

Late September has always been my favorite time of year, not just for the beautiful fall colors and crisp autumn air but because our students have settled into their routines, are engaging in learning and deepending their bonds with friends.  I always look forward to watching students give Nurse Phil an excited fist bump in the morning as they join us for another day.

Our K-6 students are traveling to Mad River Glen this coming Tuesday, October 1st for our school hike.  This event is a "choose your challenge" with multiple stopping locations for students to pick from and all make for a good hike.  We plan to leave school around 8:45am so all students need to be at school on time in order to engage in this trip.  Lunch Lady Stephanie is planning to make bagged lunches that students will be able to order today so that they are ready to go on Tuesday.  This really is a community effort.

Again we are making our nut-free community gorp for students to enjoy on the hike.  While you are planning for your weekend perhaps consider looking in your cupboards or grabbing something extra at the store.  Many thanks to those that have already donated!

As we look ahead to October we want to invite you all to join us for our Open House on Thursday, October 17th from 5:30-6:30.  This will be a wonderful celebration of the learning that has been happening in our classrooms and a way for you all to see the improvements that have been made to our building.  While there are many improvements to see, we also know that we are just not quite back to 100% and won't be by our Open House.  We look forward to the day that we can show off our completed building.

October also brings Picture Day! Brian Mohr from Ember Photography will be taking photos of all of our Moretown students.  The Maples preschool class will have their photos taken on Wednesday, 10/9 and all other students will have their photos taken on Thursday, October 10th.  Click on this link for further details:  More Information from Ember Photography

I encourage you to all read through our Community Offerings section at the bottom of the Bobcat Bulletin each week.  This week there is information about an author visit at Inklings Book Store, basketball sign up information, a new chess club and more.  There are so many ways for students to stay engaged outside of the school day and this is a great way to see what some of the options are.

I also want to make sure that everyone has seen our 24-25 HUUSD Student Calendar.  There will be no school on October 11th (staff development day) or October 14th (Indigenous Peoples Day).

I hope that all of our students and family's have a relaxing and rejuvenating weekend, full of beautiful weather and outside time.  I look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday morning.

Ms. Kate

Exciting things upcoming in PE

Dear Moretown K-6 Families,

In PE right now we are practicing catching and throwing skills, including games such as "castleball" and "boom city".

On Tuesday, October 15th, we will begin our biking unit. Tuesday is usually our health class day, but we'll be biking on this day due to the Monday holiday AND because biking is a healthy habit!

The skills we focus on during our bike unit are bike safety and balance. For this reason, we have balance (strider) bikes for new riders to use, or they are welcome to bring their own. We ask students to leave bikes with training wheels at home.

For new riders, I use a progression like the one spelled out in this Two Wheeling Tots blog post by Carrie Wren. I encourage you to take a look if your child is learning, and especially if they want to practice without training wheels before we bike in class.

More details will be coming as the unit approaches- the school has bikes and helmets available, but students are encouraged to bring theirs from home.

Have a great day,

Kae Zaino
