Bobcat Bulletin v13, 24-25

November 22, 2024

This was an exciting week at Moretown Elementary School!  Fifth and sixth graders were excitedly preparing for tonight's dance, preschool students spent time preparing or their Harvest Celebration and there was a bear in kindergarten! (Taxidermy of course....)

As we look ahead to Thanksgiving next week, I want to take a moment and express my thanks to the faculty and staff of Moretown Elementary.  Many of you just completed your parent teacher conference and could witness firsthand how teachers and staff members support students and elevate their learning.  Our staff members show up each day and give all of themselves for our students and rarely receive the credit they deserve.  MES is the warm and welcoming place that it is because of them and I encourage all of our students to give an extra "thanks" next week to their teacher and the adults that support them.

Today we conducted a "Secure the Building" drill.  Please ask your students about how this looked in their classroom and applaud them for doing such good work through this drill.  We will continue to run safety drills throughout the year to ensure that students know what to do in the event of an emergency.

Our Girl Scout Troop has hosted a wonderful Winter Clothing Swap under the roof by our main entrance.  Many families have taken advantage of the donated outgrown or unused gear.  We encourage everyone to continue to drop off and take gear through Tuesday, November 26th.  We will be donating any leftover gear to our ECO closet or Amy's Armoire in Barre Tuesday afternoon.

Have you noticed that your child is missing anything?  Our Lost and Found is overflowing with items!  We will send out images next week, but in the meantime please encourage your student to take a look.

Next week we only have school on Monday and Tuesday.  Please make note in your calendars that there is no school on Wednesday 11/27, Thursday 11/28 or Friday, 11/29.  We will reopen our doors to students on Monday, December 2nd.

I wish you all a joy-filled weekend.  I look forward to welcoming students back on Monday.

Ms. Kate

Join Girl Scouts!

We currently have four open spots for girls in grades 2-6 to join Girl Scout Troop 64227. We meet on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 2:20-3:45 at MES. Our troop loves crafts, community service, ice skating and camping. You can register online by clicking here.

We'd also love to have an opportunity for girls in grades K-1 to join the fun. To start a "Daisy" Girl Scout Troop, two adult volunteers are needed. If you are interested in helping make this happen for our youngest students, we'd be happy to provide support in doing so! You can find more information on starting a troop by clicking here, or email me at [email protected].

A 1793 Christmas with Major General & Mrs. Wait

November 30, 4:00pm

Our most historical home in the Mad River Valley is decorated for Christmas inside and out. Carolers on the porch and eggnog and a warm fireplace to greet you on the inside. There you will find the General and his lovely wife to beguile you with stories of what Christmas was like.

This event is meant to be a fun and educational event for all ages, with a heavy emphasis on younger people. Major General and Mrs. Wait will be present to give historical orations about early life in Waitsfield and greet all of their guests. There will be photo opportunities. Mrs. Wait and her helpers will have cookies and hot chocolate for the children. Further, the little ones can color ornaments that they can hang on the Wait's Christmas tree, bring or write letters to Santa Claus that will be answered by him. (must have returned address) Local singers will be present to sing Christmas carols. If inspired, please join singing along with them.

Parking is available at the Town Office's parking lot and at the Waitsfield Elementary School.

This event is free. Donations to the Waitsfield Historical Society gladly accepted.
