Bobcat Bulletin vol. 4

Greetings Moretown Elementary Community.

We have had a warm and productive week here at Moretown Elementary School.  Our students are settling into their routines and acquiring new learning each day.

There has been some confusion regarding school start time.  School doors open at 7:20, school starts at 7:25 with students checking into their classrooms, attending to breakfast needs and morning routines.  Our student day begins promptly at 7:40 and students are considered tardy at 7:41.  Thank you for helping getting students here on time.

Last week we sent students home with a free and reduced lunch application.  It is important that all families return this information so that our school can continue to be eligible for federal grant monies, student incentives and it offsets our food service expenses.  While the title can be deceiving, "free and reduced lunch" forms provide the school with more than just money for lunches.  Help us by filling out the form, whether you think/know you qualify or not.

Morefest happens tomorrow!  Join our community on the Moretown Rec Fields tomorrow, September 9th at 4pm for musical performances, local craft vendors, a Lawson's beer tent, a cookie competition and more.  Come hungry and support our 5th and 6th grades who will be selling pulled pork sandwiches to raise money for their school trips.  Our family attends this event every year and always looks forward to the firework finale!

Is your child going to be absent?  Please fill out the 23-24 Absence Form AND update PickUp Patrol!  We request that you do not email the classroom teachers as most of them are unable to check their email until the end of the day.

We will be wishing our fantastic music teacher well as he steps back from school for the next several weeks.  Please see Mr. Hill's note to the community below.

Our school photo day will be happening at the end of September and we are excited to be partnering with Ember Photography again.  Sign up for photo day looks different this year and directions can be found HERE.  We are asking that families sign up online using the linked in form and we recognize that some would prefer a paper order form.  If you'd like a paper form to be sent home with your student, please call the main office during school hours.  802-496-3742.

We hope to see you all at Morefest and look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday.

Ms. Kate

Dear Moretown School Community,

I will be taking a leave of absence from my position as music teacher in the valley elementary schools to help care for my mother who is currently in the final stage of her life in the comfort of her home in New Hampshire.  Currently, this leave is planned for seven weeks, starting on Monday, September 11th and ending on Friday, October 27th.  You will be informed if this time frame changes.  This was a difficult decision for me as I regret leaving the students for such a long time.  I feel this decision will provide the best outcome for my family.

Peg Mehuron, a valley resident who has taught elementary music in a neighboring district for much of her career, has agreed to pause her very recent retirement to step in and instruct the Mad River Valley students in my absence.  Mrs. Mehuron is a highly experienced and regarded teacher who will bring her own creativity and knowledge to helping our students continue to grow musically.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Jeremy Hill

3:30-5:30pm

For children in Grades K-3

Become a Robot designer and engage your imagination!  Artists will discover and explore details and shapes to draw and paint Robots.  Will your Robot have a task/purpose?  How will it move?  What colors and materials will it need?  Where will they live?

Children will design their very own original and imaginative Robot prints with LEGOS.  This medium offers a wonderful printmaking experience because of their mechanical and geometric nature.

We will practice drawing skills, shading practice, printmaking, problem solving, collaboration and more!
