Bobcat vol. 6

Week 4 is in the books!  I witnessed many moments of joy this week including Mrs. Dow and our Kindergarten class releasing their monarch butterfly, our Maples preschool class load the bus for their very first field trip, students excitedly joining Mr. Stevenson ("Mr. Steve") for lunch groups and first graders making it across the monkey bars for the first time.

We would like to thank Melanie and the Living Tree Alliance for hosting and organizing a wonderful preschool experience for our Maples class.  They got to hold warm eggs, pet chickens, harvest vegetables and so much more.  Please consider joining them for their Harvest Festival on Sunday, October 1st to see firsthand what an asset they are to our community.

This week we welcomed a new paraeducator to our team.  Rachel Thurston comes to us from Maine and joins our 1/2 classrooms.  Welcome Rachel!

On Tuesday, September 26th our K-6 students and staff will be loading buses and heading to Mad River Glen for a "pick your challenge" hike.  We are asking that all students come to school with a packed cold lunch or order one from our cafeteria.  If you need to order one, please reach out to the school at 802-496-3742.

Mark your calendars!  Walk to School Day will take place on Wednesday, October 4th. On this day students and some staff will be gathering at the Moretown General Store and walking to the school.  This is a choice event for students and families and is always a fun time.  More information on drop off times will be in next week's Friday Bulletin.

Below is a note from our PE teacher, Kae Zaino, giving information about the start of our biking unit.  In her note are specific details about student-owned bikes and helmets.

We will be hosting an Open House at Moretown Elementary School on Thursday, October 5th from 5:30-6:30pm.  We invite all families to join us for this event to see classrooms and meet teachers.  We are not providing childcare for families that night and expect that students stay with their guardians when they're on campus.

Lastly, the weather is starting to change.  We had some beautiful days this week, and we know colder weather is on the horizon.  Please continue to send boots and sweatshirts for our colder mornings and time in the woods. Now is also a good time to start looking through the closets to make sure that you have appropriately fitting winter gear.  If your family needs assistance securing items, please reach out to the school.

I hope you all enjoy a beautiful weekend.  We look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday morning.

Ms. Kate

From Our PE teacher, Ms. Zaino:

On Monday, September 25th we will begin our biking unit in PE. Students are encouraged to bring their own bike helmet. We have a fleet of bikes and extra helmets for those who need them. If it's possible for your family to bring your child's bike to school this is helpful as we don't have an unlimited number of bikes in each size! Please label bikes and helmets with the student's name- masking tape works great for this. Bikes should be in good working order (thanks for checking brakes and tire presume in advance). Students who are still learning will use balance bikes, please leave bikes with training wheels at home.

Bikes can be dropped off along the fence on the ball field. If you’d like your child’s bike to be locked, you need to provide the lock and your child will need to be able to operate it on their own. Moretown School is not responsible for lost or stolen bikes or helmets. Bikes may be picked up and dropped off each day (dates below) or left for the duration of the unit. Thanks for your help in getting us riding!!
